Scenic countryside near Lexington and Winchester
Seventeen miles from Lexington and 7 miles from Winchester, Becknerville offers a scenic, rural vibe close to urban amenities. "Becknerville is one of the best places to live in Clark County," says Clark County property valuation administrator (PVA) Jada Brady. "It gives you the best of both worlds because it's very close and convenient to both Winchester and Lexington, and it has some of the prettiest countryside you'll see in all of central Kentucky." Brady encourages new residents to become involved in the community. "Even before I was the PVA for the county, I still knew I could get in touch with the people who ran the county and be able to participate and feel like I was heard," she says. "I've lived all over the country, and if I had my choice, I would still live here. It feels like home."

New subdivisions near Winchester and sprawling, multiacre estates
Becknerville has subdivisions with single-family homes and larger estates on multiacre lots. The neighborhood's northeast corner has rapidly growing subdivisions with newly built and to-be-built New Traditional homes. "Clark County's population has remained pretty steady, but it's growing now. We're seeing growth," Brady says. Most of Becknerville, however, is taken up by larger lots: "Four acres and up is typical, but there are some huge farms out that way, too,” she says. In Becknerville, residents pay less property taxes than they would in Lexington. "Fayette County's property taxes are a bit higher than ours, but the counties bordering us to the east are a bit lower. We're right about in the middle," Brady says. Prices in Becknerville vary greatly. Recent land sales range from about $75,000 to $125,000. Single-family homes in subdivisions often sell for $165,000 to $525,000, while homes on larger lots can go for anywhere from $380,000 to $1.3 million. Becknerville's CAP Index crime score is 3 out of 10, below the national average of 4.

The Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival and the Beer Cheese Festival
Every Labor Day weekend, Winchester celebrates its history with the Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival, a two-day event with concerts, vendor booths and a 5K walk/run. In June, residents come together for the annual Beer Cheese Festival. First developed in Kentucky in the 1930s, beer cheese was a local chef’s effort to increase his patron's beer consumption. Today, the invention is celebrated annually in Winchester with thousands of visitors sampling beer cheeses from all over the country.
