Rural commercial district meets Poconos village
A fixture on regional highway signs, the village of Brodheadsville has made a name for itself between larger settlements like Tannersville and Stroudsburg. "Brodheadsville is referred to as the West End by locals, meaning the West End of Monroe County,” says Bob Kelly, a Realtor with the Kelly Realty Group of Keller Williams Real Estate who specializes in Monroe County. Passing by on U.S. Route 209, Brodheadsville is a blur of billboards, weather-worn barns and commercial plazas. Off the main drag, this West End village retains the generational farms, forested lakes and creeks and distant mountain vistas that define rural living in the mountainous cradle of the Poconos.
Single-family homes from $200,000
Brodheadsville’s single-family homes span eras and architectural styles, lining busy main roads and winding, quiet side streets. Simple vernacular homes including Cape Cods and ranch-style homes built in the 1950s and earlier sell for $200,000 to $425,000 depending on update needs, lot size and commercial zoning potential. Larger homes built in the 1980s through 2000s sit on lots upward of an acre, ranging in style from farmhouse-inspired to New Traditional with rustic wood detailing and selling for $300,000 to $520,000 depending on renovation levels and square footage. Homeowners may live on secluded properties set on forested hillsides, on waterfronts like the banks of Lake Mineola or along long stretches of cleared land making use of flatter terrain, broken up by driveways, careful landscaping and unobstructed views of distant mountains.
Ranch style homes can be found all around Brodheadsville.

Shopping and dining along 209
Major big box anchors have helped transform U.S. Route 209 into a busy commercial corridor, from Tractor Supply to the Weis Markets and largest ShopRite in the world. Older strip malls house more businesses, ranging from salons and fitness centers to retailers like Grapevine Antiques and Crafts Mall, a maze-like home goods store filled with artfully arranged, ever-changing displays. Multi-generational family farms like Gould’s sell fresh produce and invite patrons to pick their own fruit during strawberry season. Several churches hold services throughout the village.
Global cuisines have joined Brodheadsville’s restaurant scene over the years, from the casual handheld staples at Spinelli’s Brick Oven Pizzeria & Italian Grill to the gyros and Mexican cuisine served at Crystal’s. Sauce West End opened in 2022 and has already developed a loyal customer base through a rotating menu of family-recipe Italian dishes and intimate indoor and patio seating scored by a Frank Sinatra radio station. Just south of the village, Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard & Winery offers a five-course dining experience in the Underground Room, an elevated and literal take on a root cellar lit by a crystal chandelier fashioned out of growing tree roots.

Trails from Chestnuthill Township Park to The Big Woods
Past basketball courts and the rentable events building, Chestnuthill Township Park’s forests form a canopy over playground equipment and picnic pavilions. Walking trails wind away from more structured amenities, rising along hills where the sounds of distant traffic and swing set squeaking are replaced by gravel crunching underfoot, birdsong and the breeze-rustling of ferns. The Silver Valley Natural Area is home to further trails and fishing access to McMichael Creek. Just north of Brodheadsville, mountain bikers can travel through forests and fields on trails ranging from easy to advanced at West End Regional Park. Hikers access miles of trails through the aptly named Big Woods Natural Area at the Little Mexico Road Trailhead.

Churchill Township Park events and the West End Fair
The field around the bandshell at Chestnuthill Township Park is a favorite venue for holiday events, welcoming magicians, cider makers, seasonal vendors and creative costume contest competitors at the October Chestnuthill Spooktacular and filling with colorful eggs and hunters during the springtime Easter Egg Hunt. For over a century the West End Fair has drawn crowds to the smaller neighboring village of Gilbert, welcoming well over 100,000 fairgoers over the course of a week in August to enjoy fair food, live music, agricultural competitions, demolition derbies and carnival rides shadowed by the spinning Ferris wheel.

Traffic on 209
As one of the region’s busiest roadways, Route 209 is often a centrifuge of commuter complaints – standstill lines, stop-and-start stretches as drivers seek breaks wide enough to make lefthand turns and after-school traffic around Pleasant Valley High School. Recent infrastructure improvements, including the addition of roundabouts near the high school and at 209’s intersection with State Route 115, aim to ease traffic flow.
