Plainfield Township
Hilly streets with varied architectural styles
Plainfield Township's winding, hilly streets feature homes of all shapes and sizes from ranch-style dwellings and larger contemporary colonials to older American Foursquares and Victorians. Smaller homes under 1,500 square feet can price between $100,000 and $300,000 while larger properties with four or more bedrooms often range from $300,000 and upwards of $600,000. The housing market in Plainfield Township is relatively competitive with some homes selling within three or four weeks of their listing.Hike the Appalachian Trail
The Plainfield Township contains several community parks. Plainfield Community Park is a popular spot for kids to play baseball and soccer after school, but Wind Gap Park serves as the area's primary hub. The park frequently hosts live entertainment during the year's warmer months at the bandstand, as well as craft fairs and an annual car cruise. During the summer, locals can head to Plainfield Farmer's Fairgrounds for the annual Plainfield Farmer's Fair, which features eating contests, live entertainment and a tractor pull. The township is also a haven for local hikers with the Appalachian Trail running just north of Wind Gap and Pen Argyl. The 6.9-mile Plainfield Township Trail offers picturesque views of the area's dense forests and diverse wildlife as well. "If you're driving through Wind Gap, you'll see people with backpacks all the time. They come down from the mountain into town to eat and get supplies," Rowe says. The Wind Gap Plaza offers retail and restaurants nearby
Given the township's rural setting, locals often plan their trips to the grocery store. Fresh meats and produce can be found at Weis in Pen Argyl or the Giant at Wind Gap Plaza, which contains retail stores and restaurants. Small family-owned shops are also scattered throughout the township. South Broadway features chain restaurants from McDonald's to Dunkin', though a few local eateries stand out. Cafe on Broadway is an area staple for its traditional American foods from burgers to beef cheesesteaks. Township residents also frequent Good Azz Eats in Pen Argyl to munch on chicken wings with the family or order takeout from Anthony's Pizzeria.Join the drama club at Pen Argyl Area High School
Students in the Plainfield Township are served by the Pen Argyl Area School District. Children from kindergarten to Grade 3 may go to Plainfield Elementary School, which earns a grade of B from Niche, before moving on to the C-plus-graded Wind Gap Middle School for Grades 4 through 8. Teens attend Pen Argyl Area High School. With a Niche grade of B-minus, the high school offers a competitive athletics program as well as a wide range of extracurricular clubs and organizations from National Honor Society to a drama club.Interstate 33 allows for easy access to Allentown
Plainfield Township is not walkable, so locals will need a car to get from place to place. While public transit is minimal, Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority buses do include stops along Sullivan Trail. Interstate 33 also serves as the township's western border, offering residents easy access to Allentown and surrounding boroughs. "You can still get to where you need to go because it's a nice hub in the area," Rowe says. "It's an hour and a half to New York and an hour and a half to Philadelphia, so it's a great hub. People are looking for quiet, they still want that farm area, but they also want the conveniences, so it's a nice little mix."
