Suburban living near two lakes
Just four miles to the east of downtown Winston-Salem, City View is a neighborhood with active residents in a quiet, suburban setting. “The pair of lakes are big for residents in the area, especially in the summer,” says Michelle Coyne of Glenwood Homes, who has been a Realtor in Winston-Salem for five years. “There are a few golf courses in the area, with Winston Lake Golf Course being right in the neighborhood, so it’s very convenient.” The two lakes are Winston Lake and Salem Lake, each offering swimming, fishing and boating opportunities. There are a few restaurants clustered around the lakes, but for extensive dining and shopping options, City View residents will need to head to downtown Winston-Salem. The homes sit on more quiet, less densely populated roads than those on the west side of town.
Quiet roads and narrow streets
City View homes have a median price point of nearly $165,000. There are some larger Craftsman homes in the area, but most of the houses are ranch-style or tri-level builds. Homes are tucked away on quiet roads without much traffic. The streets are narrow, but with private driveways, on-street parking is a non-factor. There are few sidewalks in the neighborhood, but large lawns provide a place for exercise and relief for dog owners. Streets can be dark at night as there are not many lampposts in the area.

Lake Winston, Lake Salem, and golf
Locals can get a workout in at the Carl H. Russell Community Center, which features a gymnasium and fitness center. For outdoor fun, residents can head to a pair of lake parks. Salem Lake Park has a walking trail as well as a playground, but the main feature is Salem Lake, which is popular for kayaking and fishing. There’s much more to Winson Lake Park than the scenic Winston Lake. The area also has a splash pad for children and a swimming pool on site. In addition, the Winston Lake Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course that also features a driving range.

Papa Lee's and other dining options
When hungry, Papa Lee’s Grill at Winston Lake is where locals go for a burger and fries. The casual dining spot is right near the park and has a variety of sandwich and burger options. For some southern cooking, Goodness Gracious is the spot. Goodness Gracious has daily specials like fried salmon in a relaxed environment. The neon signs at Alma Mexicana draw in customers hungry for authentic Mexican food. The restaurant also has a full bar and plenty of tequila options.
Residents can get an entire week’s worth of shopping done at the Food Lion located on Route 211. There is not a great deal of retail in City View, but shoppers can head to Winston-Salem for boutique stores and nationally recognized outlets.
Busses on Greensboro Road
The Winston-Salem Transit Authority provides bus services throughout Winston-Salem. The bus makes frequent stops on Old Greensboro Road and takes locals all over town. City View is also convenient for drivers with access to Interstate 74 and Routes 158, 311 and 421 all nearby.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
