Greenbrier Farm
Assorted architectural styles in Greenbriar Farm
The early-2000s-era Greenbrier Farm development is dominated by large, often custom-built Traditional and Colonial Revival homes on large lots. Prices start at more than $600,000 and can climb as high as $2 million. In communities like Greystone Place, also an early 21st-century development, homes are similar in style but smaller. They range in price between about $550,000 and $800,000. Classic brick ranch-style and split-level homes line the streets in subdivisions like Shattalon Lake Estates and Cedar Forest Estates, which sprang up in the mid- to late-20th century. Homes there tend to go for between $300,000 and $500,000. Quate says that prices here are high compared to those in neighborhoods to the east, noting that growth around Pfafftown may be part of the reason. Keller Williams Realtor Royda Turman agrees that home prices here have increased lately, noting that they're still competitive compared to other parts of the state. “Winston-Salem is one of the fastest-growing areas in North Carolina, just after Raleigh and Charlotte. And our prices are increasing, but not at the same rate as they are in Raleigh or Charlotte,” she says.Indoor and outdoor amenities abound at Old Town Park
Within just a couple miles of most homes, Old Town Park sprawls across nearly 15 acres of the north-central side of the neighborhood. The expansive park comprises sunny sports fields, fully fenced tennis courts, a half-mile walking trail and a shady playground. There are even picnic pavilions, complete with charcoal grills. Local elementary-aged kids participate in after-school programs at the Old Town Neighborhood Center, nearby. On the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, the Library Bookmobile visits the center as part of an outreach program sponsored by Forsyth County Public Libraries. Grownups can join in on fun programs there, too, by attending various fitness, art or crafting classes. Aspiring wordsmiths workshop their latest projects at monthly Writers Group meetings, which take place every second Tuesday.
Highly sought-after Pfafftown schools
Greenbrier Farm students are served by some of the most highly rated schools in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Schools system, including Vienna Elementary, Jefferson Middle and Reagan High. Both Vienna and Reagan are west of home, in Pfafftown. “The area toward Pfafftown is getting popular, because Reagan High School is one of the top-rated schools in the district, so a lot of people with kids want to move there,” says Quate. Reagan boasts an A grade from Niche and more than 40 clubs/extracurriculars, including the Key Club, Future Farmers of America and Reagan Students Demand Action. Reagan ranks third on Niche’s list of the best public high schools in Forsyth County. Vienna Elementary and Jefferson Middle both earn A-minuses from Niche.Groceries and more on Reynolda Road
For groceries and other everyday essentials, there’s a Food Lion off Reynolda Road within a few miles of most homes. It’s in the Oldtown Center strip mall at the north end of the neighborhood, between Dollar General and Boost Mobile. In the same strip, the Winston-Salem location of El Camino Real serves up authentic Mexican fare. Down the street, the La Victoria Grocery & Meat Market Hispanic grocery store has fresh produce and other food staples, as well as a restaurant section that serves up dishes from tacos to tamales.
Drivable northwest Winston-Salem suburb
Downtown Winston-Salem is nearly 8 miles southeast. The drive can take about 20 minutes via North Carolina Highway 67, known more commonly by locals as Reynolda Road. The neighborhood is bisected by two main thoroughfares. Shattalon Drive heads north-south and Yadkinville Road heads east-west. Pfafftown is less than 3 miles west of most homes, via Yadkinville.
