Folks can also stroll around downtown Winston-Salem, which has “been renovating downtown for a while to make it more people friendly. People can spend the day walking around the arts district and going to the breweries,” says Katsamas. Local favorites include Incendiary Brewing Company, next to Baily Park, a city park that occasionally hosts midday concerts.Driving along Peters Creek Parkway
Those with electronic vehicles can charge their cars at a centrally located charging station. It’s right off Peters Creek Parkway, the area’s main thoroughfare, which includes shopping, dining and Planet Fitness. There are some bus stops on both sides of Hootstown, near Ebert Road to the west and along Peters Creek Parkway to the east. Hootstown is largely car-dependent, but trees provide shade for pleasant dog walks and bike rides to and from neighbors’ houses. The nearest hospital, Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, is 4 miles away. Higher education opportunities less than 4 miles away include Winston-Salem State University, Forsyth Technical Community College and Salem College. For air travel, locals drive 80 miles to Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
