Sought-after community among the trees in western Winston-Salem
Hidden among tall, mature trees, Huntscroft-New Forestdale is a quiet suburban enclave offering respite from the busy streets of Downtown Winston-Salem. “It’s a desirable neighborhood with a tight-knit community—one of the most popular neighborhoods year after year," says Josh Loew, a Realtor with Leonard Ryden Burr Real Estate. “Neighbors look out for each other; if you’re sick, they’ll bring you soup,” says Loew, who's lived in the Winston-Salem area for over 25 years. “Here, you’re within a couple of miles of all the conveniences you’d expect in a city.” Retailers sit just outside the neighborhood; downtown is about 6 1/2 miles east and the lush campus of Wake Forest University is even closer. “A lot of executives, teachers and coaches live over there,” says Tina Whiteheart, a longtime Winston-Salem resident and Realtor with Park Place Real Estate. “It’s the housing developments with nice homes, the school districts and the land.” The neighborhood also has a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, well below the national average of 4.

Large Colonial Revival styles with landscaped lawns
Huntscroft-New Forestdale’s quiet neighborhood streets are wide and adorned with vintage streetlights. Tall shade trees dot spacious lots of nearly ½ acre. Lawns are highly manicured, featuring neatly trimmed bushes and flowerbeds. The large, red brick Colonial Revival homes here emphasize the community’s established feel. Built between the late 1970s and today, these houses are usually well over 2,000 square feet. They’re often Georgian in design with Federal and Neoclassical decorative elements like arched Palladian windows and towering columns. Some lean more toward New Traditional with asymmetrical front gable roofs. Most homes cost between $500,000 and $750,000, though a few estate-like properties can list around $1 million. Smaller 1940s cottages and midcentury ranch-style homes are also available for under $500,000.
