Close to a popular park and city highlights
Realtor Tori Boysen sums up the attractions of Reynolda Forest/Salem Lake nicely, "People appreciate this area for its ease of access to highways. It's a short drive to downtown Winston-Salem and Winston-Salem State University, and it has awesome outdoor amenities, including Salem Lake and Quarry Park." Boysen lives 3 miles away but has close friends who live in Reynolda Forest/Salem Lake. "Quarry Park has a brand-new playground, so there's been some investment into the area, and you'll only see more growth." Out of Winston-Salem's 80-plus parks, Quarry Park is the second most visited.
Many of the homes in Reynolda Forest/Salem Lake have mature trees to offer shade in the summer.
Forested suburbs
Though there is a large lake and several smaller ones in Reynolda Forest/Salem Lake, there are no lakefront homes. Homes on Spring Lake Farm Circle back up to a small lake, but none face the water or have personal docs. Spring Lake's homes are custom-built Neo Traditionals, making them stand out from the ranch styles and minimal traditionals that comprise most of the market. They are also the most expensive in the neighborhood, sometimes climbing toward the high end of $600,000 and offering double the square footage of other homes. Outside of this, buyers can expect prices from the mid $100,000s to $200,000s in Reynolda Forest/Salem Lake. Its neighborhood streets have a country feel, with densely forested areas always in view. Properties tend to sell within 2 to 3 weeks.
Locals can choose their own schools
"The best thing about Winston-Salem is that we offer school choice, so residents can select a facility that may be outside of their neighborhood. But officially, they are served by the Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools," Boysen shares. One complete pipeline for some students is Smith Farm Elementary School, Philo-Hill Magnet Academy — which serves sixth through eighth grade — and East Forsyth High School. The elementary school earns a B plus rating from Niche, the academy scores a C, and the high school is rated a solid B. The high school has a hybrid library where students can access a breadth of downloadable audiobooks, electronic journals and e-books. The Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools' website offers detailed video instructions on the three-step application process for parents seeking their choice in schools.
Quarry park is the place to be
Regarding Salem Lake, Boysen shares the inside scoop, "I don't think the water is clean enough to swim in. Mainly, it's a destination. There's a pavilion, playground, and a boat house, although the boats you see are typically small fishing boats." Quarry Park is over 200 acres with an observation point with a view of both its lake and a not-too-distant downtown city skyline. Its playground's new features include a rock-climbing wall, a toddler play area, and blue in-ground trampolines reflecting ripples in a lake. The greenway trail also passes through Reynolda Forest/Salem Lake. "I have used it, and I thought one of the neatest things was that we started the trail at Salem College, and then we went all the way to Salem Lake, and we were able to see Winston Salem State University, Bowman Gray Stadium and Reynolds Park Golf Course along the way," Boysen says.

Car races and national holidays
Though locals could also head downtown for events, there's also plenty nearby. "The biggest events are at Quarry Park, like their Fourth of July celebration. Bowman Gray Stadium is a local racetrack. I can hear it for miles, but I've never been. They have all kinds of different car races," shares Boysen. The stadium is also around 5 miles away along Highway 158.
