Stonebridge-Rollinghills
Suburban Neighborhood in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Forsyth County 27104
Single-family homes and condos in a variety of styles
A short stone wall surrounded by shrubs welcomes residents entering the neighborhood on Stonebridge Drive. “Stonebridge has always been a popular area, partly due to the number of complexes on it,” Ray says. “When you start down the street, there are four or five complexes of townhouses. At the end of the street are single-family dwellings.” Architecture is just as diverse, with ranch-style homes, cottages, Colonial Revivals, traditional brick homes and Modern Transitional designs all available in the neighborhood, resting on wide streets without sidewalks. Properties are larger than the national average of 1,930 square feet, averaging around 2,300 square feet. Neatly landscaped yards are also spacious, with groves of mature trees providing privacy between houses. Single-family homes typically fall between $200,000 and $650,000, but newly built custom homes start at $680,000 and can reach $900,000. Townhouses cost between $150,000 and $375,000, while condos range from $135,000 to $240,000.Spotting wildlife along the Muddy Creek Greenway
Stonebridge-Rollinghills lies next to the Muddy Creek Greenway. The wide paved trail runs along Muddy Creek for 3 miles. Whiteheart says the trail is popular for biking, dog walking and watching wildlife, with herons and ducks living along the creek. Toward the trail’s southern terminus is Jamison Park. Originally farmland, this wide open green space features a dog park, a playground and an amphitheater spread out over nearly 40 acres. Leinbach Park is a short drive from the neighborhood for tennis matches, beach volleyball and taking laps around a short walking trail. Around the corner from the park is the Robinhood Road Family YMCA, which offers youth programming and has an indoor gym.Mount Tabor High’s crosstown rivalry
Multiple public school zones serve the neighborhood. One of the most sought-after starts at Sherwood Forest Elementary. Earning an overall A rating from Niche, the school’s Songsters singing group performs around the Piedmont Triad, including at Wake Forest University basketball games and the Carowinds Music Festival. Thomas Jefferson Middle gets an A-minus and offers the Crosby Scholars college preparation program where students learn leadership skills, participate in community service projects and explore various career paths. Mount Tabor High receives a B-plus. Friday night lights are a big part of school culture, and there is a competitive crosstown rivalry with East Forsyth High. The Mount Tabor Spartans won their first state championship in 2021. Stonebridge-Rollinghills families can also consider applying to a school of their choice through Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ lottery system. The A-plus-rated Calvary Day School, a kindergarten through 12th grade private Christian school, is located right outside the neighborhood.Date nights and hangouts at Skatehaven USA
Skatehaven USA offers a fun, family activity in a nostalgic setting. Open to all ages, this is an “all-skate” facility that requires everyone to wear skates while inside the building. Speed skating classes are available on Saturday mornings, and those new to the sport can rent Skate Mates. The venue is popular for birthday parties and daycare outings, and there are adult skate nights once a month.Quiet neighborhood strolls and U.S. Route 421 nearby
Walking and biking are common ways to get around the neighborhood, but without access to public transportation, the community is largely car-dependent. Commuters have several options to reach Downtown Winston-Salem, including U.S. Route 421, Interstate 40 and Robinhood Road. Piedmont Triad International Airport is about 32 miles east of Greensboro.T.J.’s legendary CHAM sandwich and Hanes Mall
Three shopping centers sit on the outskirts of the neighborhood along Country Club Road, hosting familiar brands like Walmart Neighborhood Market, Harris Teeter, Play it Again Sports and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, as well as a handful of restaurants. TJ’s Deli and Grill is a local favorite, serving its CHAM Sandwich since 1982. It’s an innovative take on the original cordon bleu. The eatery operates an ice cream shop right next door. Pizza Greco is a few doors down, boxing up New York and Sicilian-style pizza and gyros. The family business is run by the same husband-and-wife team, who are also partners in T.J.’s Deli. “If you’re a foodie, you go downtown to get that type of meal,” says Tina Whiteheart, the owner of Park Place Real Estate, who’s lived on this side of town for 25 years. “Hanes Mall has more of the restaurants you know across the country.” The mall is about 6 miles away and is home to dozens of name-brand stores.
