While many houses in Washington Park are over a century old, buyers will find carefully updated interiors along with new construction. “The neighborhood has big, beautiful old school homes,” says lifelong area resident and real estate broker Veronica Ruiz of eXp Realty. “Homeowners in the area like to stay a lot longer than in most, so there isn’t a lot of turnover.” Architectural styles of the late 19th century and early 1900s, such as Craftsman-styles, Queen Anne and Colonial Revival, are found throughout the area. Lot sizes are around a quarter-acre and are lined with mature trees and lush grass. Many Craftsman-style bungalows and cottages fall within the $200,000 and $400,000 price range. Stately Queen Anne and Colonial Revivals toward South Main Street can be closer to $700,000 and even into the millions.

Students in the area attend Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools
Education begins at Konnoak Elementary School, which earned an overall C-plus grade on Niche. Students then attend Philo-Hill Magnet Academy, a public magnet school that earned a C on Niche. Grades nine through 12 attend Parkland High School, which earned a B-minus on Niche. The school features a Freshmen Academy, which helps ninth-grade students in the transition from middle school to high school through individualized strategies and the promotion of strong study habits.

On one of these walks, residents can head to Washington Park, the area’s namesake green space. Children especially enjoy its dinosaur-themed playground, and pet owners love the off-leash dog park. Washington Park offers several baseball fields and it's also an access point for the Salem Creek Greenway, which stretches over 5 miles and connects the park with other areas like Reynolds Park and Marketplace Mall.

Bustling bars and boutique grocery stores on Acadia Avenue
Washington Park is also within walking distance to several popular local businesses. Acadia Foods is a small, niche spot known for offering a market, deli and coffee shop. Residents enjoy Acadia’s brunch which locals consider one of the best in Winston-Salem. Off Peters Creek Parkway, residents can shop antiques at Lost in Time Antique Mall, get groceries at Compare Foods or catch a movie at Marketplace Cinemas.
