A quiet lakeside community with its own private beach
Situated along the quiet shores of Wonder Lake, Lookout Point is full of peaceful winding streets. “This used to be summer homes for Chicago firemen and policemen years and years ago,” says Sue O’Brien, the treasurer for Lookout Point’s homeowners association. “They would have a little cabin. A lot of those cottages have been turned into nice homes.” Custom-built homes sit along the lake with piers jutting out over the water. Even those living farther from the shoreline can walk through the neighborhood to the private neighborhood park.
Waterskiing and tubing on Wonder Lake
Lookout Point Park and Boat Launch is just off the cul-de-sac on Lake Shore Drive. “You can only get into the park if you’re a resident and you’ve paid your dues,” O’Brien says. The beach is small, just a little patch of sand along the shoreline, with a pier next to it where people can park their boats or fish. The park is mainly open green space with a slide and swing set. On the lake, people can fish or pull kids on tubes in the wake of their boats. “A lot of people have mostly pontoons,” O’Brien says. “Pontoons are great party boats. If your relatives want to come, and they always want to come, we can all sit on the boat.” Wonder Lake also has a nationally recognized water-skiing team, where members can learn water tricks and different formations with the team.

Cottages and ranch-style homes sit on smaller lots, typically selling between $175,000 and $275,000. Custom builds are slower to come on the market, but recent 2024 sales have options that sold for $485,000 and $825,000.
