Marumsco Village
Marumsco Village has midcentury homes
Homes built between the 1950s and ‘60s line Marumsco Village’s wide, asphalt roads. Cape Cod cottages often sit on 10,000-square-foot lots dotted with ornamental shrubs and a white oak tree. Driveways stretch alongside ranch styles, typically made of red brick and vinyl. Three-bedroom homes can start at $350,000, while four-bedroom homes may reach $550,000. Over half of the neighborhood is made up of renters with the Woodbridge Station apartment complex’s several New Traditional-style buildings off Eisenhower Circle. The area has a history of flooding, and Marumsco Creek can overflow during heavy rain.Locals can walk to the Woodbridge train station
The Georgian Revival-style Woodbridge train station on Express Way has two tracks. It’s served by the Amtrak’s Northeast Regional line, taking passengers to Union Station in about an hour. Virginia Railway Express’s Fredericksburg line also runs here, reaching the same place in about an hour and a half. The neighborhood is less than a mile east of I-95, though Allen says driving has disadvantages. “That stretch of traffic towards D.C. can come to a standstill pretty frequently. That’s why most people prefer to take the train into the city.” D.C. is A 25-mile drive north on I-95. Drivers will find over 3,000 parking spots in the commuter lots just west of the highway, making it easy to carpool on I-95's HOV lanes. Several OmniRide bus stops are around the commuter lots and along U.S. Route 1. Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is the closest hospital, 3 miles southwest of the neighborhood. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is less than 25 miles northeast, and Dulles International Airport is 30 miles northwest.Woodbridge High School has an AP Scholars program
Children can attend Belmont Elementary School and Fred M. Lynn Middle School, both earning C-plus grades from Niche. They may continue to A-rated Woodbridge High School, which offers the Advanced Placement Scholars program. Participants must take five AP classes, complete 60 service hours and present a research project on the topic of their choice before graduating. A-graded St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School is a prekindergarten through eighth grade school associated with the neighboring Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church.Shopping on U.S. Route 1 and Potomac Mills
Beige strip malls line U.S. Route 1 on the neighborhood’s eastern edge. At Station Plaza, locals can go grocery shopping in the Food Lion or knock down pins at Bowl America. Woodbridge Center is home to Dixie Bones, one of the town’s few locally owned restaurants. “Dixie Bones is probably the most well-known restaurant in the area,” Allen says. “It’s been there since the late ‘90s, so it’s the kind of place where people have been going for years and they become regulars.” Military and police patches decorate the restaurant's wooden walls and booths, where patrons enjoy giant stuffed potatoes and hickory-smoked spare ribs smothered in sweet barbecue sauce. Chain restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and Chili’s sit in the parking lot of Potomac Mills, 3 miles west of the neighborhood. Shoppers can eat an Auntie Anne’s soft pretzel as they walk around the one-story mall and shop at stores like Gap Factory, Nordstrom Rack and Books-A-Million.Youth sports at Veterans Memorial Park and fishing on the Potomac River
Veterans Memorial Park is a lively youth sports hub just east of the neighborhood. Referee whistles and crowd cheers fill the air when soccer and football leagues play on the grass fields. Parents sit on metal bleachers during Woodbridge Little League games on the park’s five baseball diamonds. Two-story twisty slides and white plastic lounge chairs surround the public pool behind the community center, which hosts regular youth basketball clinics and guitar lessons. Skateboarders glide down verts and half-pipes at the skatepark, and tennis balls whack against the rubber courts with pickleball lines. For a quieter outdoor spot, Allen says locals go to Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, next to Veterans Memorial. “It’s a really beautiful peninsula on the Potomac River,” he says. “I live like 20 minutes away, but I’ll drive up to go fishing.” Gravel hiking paths cut through eastern gamagrass fields, dotted with wooden pavilions, where anglers stop to catch striped bass and catfish.
