Waterfall Glen
Suburban Neighborhood in Woodridge, Illinois
DuPage County 60439, 60517, 60527
Stopping in at the falls of Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve
The wooded trails of Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve comprise most of the community and include access points close to the neighborhood’s residential pockets. “It’s one of the best forest preserves in DuPage County,” Meilus says. “There are three different parking areas, so you can walk a different section of the park every time you go and avoid the rush hour of bikers and runners in the morning.” The preserve wraps around the Argonne National Laboratory, where visitors can stop at Rocky Glen Waterfall or Sawmill Creek Bluff Overlook while appreciating the vast wildlife spread throughout. A day outside can also include 1-mile trips south to The Forge Adventure Park & Ziplines. Alongside zipping from tree to tree, visitors try their shot at archery, seek thrills along the towering rope course or rent a kayak to take out on The Quarry Lake.Waterfall Glen's local houses of worship
Peering above the community's southwestern corner is The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago’s Kalinga-style Sri Rama Temple. Constructed in 1977, the complex also welcomes devotees to its Ganesha-Shiva-Durga Temple, built in the Chola style. In addition to serving active members, the temple welcomes visitors to its colorful flower garden or during weekly yoga classes. The community's northeast corner is also home to a number of houses of worship, including The Mecca Center, a masjid on 91st Street, the neighboring Macedonian Orthodox Church Sv Kiril I Metodij and Wat Buddha Damma Meditation Center, as well as several others.Mid-century homes and recently built New Traditional styles
The streets of Waterfall Glen run through the community’s northeastern corner as well as its western side, divided by the campus of the Argonne National Laboratory, a federal science research center located within the forest preserve. Despite existing 4 miles apart, on either side of the forest preserve, each side of the community presents a similar residential landscape, where tall oak and pine trees tower over neighborhood streets that lack sidewalks but have signs warning motorists to mind kids playing in the street. Similarly, mid-to-late 20th-century ranch and split-level-style homes fill the community, alongside occasional New Traditional styles from the last 25 years. The homes generally cost between $250,000 and $800,000, though larger new-construction homes and exceptionally large properties can reach up to $1.5 million. Several condos and townhomes are also available throughout the neighborhood, ranging in price from $120,000 to $500,000, depending on size and condition.Exploring various the cuisines along 75th Street
When it comes to eating out, Meilus mentions that the options are very diverse, with many seeking out local spots. Within 5 miles, residents can stop in for traditional Indian dishes at Shikara Restaurant or check out Eastern European beer and Lithuanian delicacies like borscht and kugelis at Grand Duke’s Restaurant, both of which sit along 75th Street. Similarly, Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket, located 2 miles northeast, opened in 1946, taking over an old gas station lunch counter on the historic Route 66 corridor. The Promenade Bolingbrook, 3 miles east, is home to retailers like Macy’s, Bass Pro Shops and several others, and also sits across the street from a Meijer for any grocery needs.Getting involved at Hinsdale South High School
Most students living on the community's western side are served by Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. Prekindergarten through 2nd grade students attend Oakwood School, which maintains a B rating on Niche. Following this, students head to River Valley School and Old Quarry Middle School, both of which maintain an A-minus rating. Older students will enroll at Lemont High School, which holds an A-plus rating and earned a National Blue Ribbon title in 2017, a designation for high-achieving student assessments. Meanwhile, most of the remaining community enrolls in Cass School District 63 schools. Here, young students attend Concord Elementary School and Cass Junior High School, both of which maintain an A rating. Older students take classes at Hinsdale South High School, also holding an A rating. The high school welcomes students to participate in the Hornet Leadership Board. The selected representatives will work with class officers to organize community-focused events and discuss the interests of the school’s greater population.Commuting along Interstate 55
Interstate 55 borders directly north and links residents to downtown Chicago, a 23-mile drive northeast. Those making daily commutes can hop on the Metra at Lemont Station for a 2-hour ride into the city. Those traveling from the area can reach flights at Chicago O’Hare International Airport by taking along a 24-mile drive via Interstate 294, which sits 5 miles northeast. Closer to home is UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook Hospital, an 8-mile trip southwest for those seeking medical care.
