Suburban community settled between acres of parklands
While Woodstock, Maryland is not the site of the famous music festival, this neighborhood’s still got plenty to sing about. “Woodstock is cool. It’s essentially a rural area with lots of woodlands,” explains Brian Pakulla, longtime Woodstock resident and Realtor with RE/MAX. “Most homes are on an acre of land or more, and we back right up to the Patapsco Valley State Park,” where you can walk the banks of the Patapsco River, explore acres upon acres of lush landscapes, spot local wildlife, and still be home in time for dinner. So get ready to trade in your bell bottoms for hiking boots, and head over to Maryland’s Woodstock, a cool place to call home.
Secluded single-family homes and townhouse community options
Housing options in Woodstock consist primarily of detached single-family homes with a few townhouse communities thrown in the mix. Townhomes in Woodstock range in price from the mid $500,000s to the upper $600,000s depending on size, the number of bedrooms (three or four), and whether the home includes an attached two-car garage. Subdivisions featuring Traditional style homes with four to five bedrooms, three baths and two-car garages are popular here and can cost anywhere from $700,000 on up. When looking at newly constructed builds, be prepared to spend $1.2 million or more. Or if you want something more remote, there are many areas in Woodstock that offer standalone properties on expansive acreage. “That’s a big part of the draw in the Woodstock area,” explains Pakulla. “The woodlands, the outdoors. You can even find a property with 16-acres for $700,000 here.”
Howard County Conservancy for nature walks and environmental education
Another perk? “To the south of us we’ve got the Howard County Conservancy, which is 232 acres of preserved land on a 300-year-old farm. They’ve got a nature center and exhibits where kids can walk through the fields, or learn about butterflies.” Situated on the former Mt. Pleasant farm, today the Conservancy educates children and adults about environmental stewardship and the Chesapeake Bay ecosystems throughout the year.
Nearby Howard County Public schools
And when the kids aren’t out enjoying the nature center, they’re likely indoors and learning their ABC’s at Howard County Public Schools, like Waverly Elementary. Serving over 900 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades, this school hosts fun events like pajama day, family game nights, and book fairs, in addition to their standard curriculum. With the school’s test scores ranking well above state averages, it’s clear that these little wildcats are roaring to success!
Waverly Woods Village Center shopping, and locally loved Woodstock Inn
Despite Woodstock’s rural location, it’s still convenient to all of the modern amenities you might need. For your everyday essentials head over to the Waverly Woods Village Center to pick up groceries, fill a prescription, or nab some take-out for an easy dinner at home. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, head over to the Woodstock Inn for a wild time. Located right off Woodstock Road and adjacent to the Patapsco River, this restaurant looks like a wooden cabin from the outside and features an old-school locomotive churning its wheels right through the front wall. “This place is a landmark,” explains Pakulla. “It was built along the railroad tracks and near the woods. They’ve got outdoor seating, live music, fire pits and—you can even ride your horse there.” And he’s not kidding. The restaurant prides itself on offering good eats for hikers, mountain bikers, and horse enthusiasts alike. You can hitch your horse to the nearest post, then settle in for a cold drink or two.
