Lake Park
Suburban Neighborhood in Worcester, Massachusetts
Worcester County 01604
Vintage Colonials and contemporary waterfront homes
Residences in Lake Park sit on small lots along the gridded streets west of Lake Quinsigamond; while there are limited waterfront homes, all houses are only a few blocks from the lake. The neighborhood hosts a mixture of typical New England architectural styles, including vintage Colonials and traditional homes from the late 19th century and bungalows from the early 20th century. These properties start at around $300,000, with prices rising to around $600,000. Condos and townhouses from the early 2000s usually cost between $500,000 and $600,000, while striking newly built waterfront properties can cost as much as $1.5 million.Swim, boat and fish at Quinsigamond State Park
Lake Park is packed with recreational opportunities on the water and on land. Quinsigamond State Park is a popular access point for Lake Quinsigamond, where residents explore nature trails, relax on sandy beaches, play tennis on the courts or pack a picnic to enjoy by the water. Residents enjoy the best of lake life and often go fishing, paddling and boating as well. “There's also Regatta Community Sailing, where people can rent sailboats, kayaks and paddleboards,” Zamarro says. If they’re feeling an indoor activity, locals can go ice skating at the Buffone Arena.Career prep at North High
Kids in Lake Park can begin at Lake View School, the elementary school for the neighborhood and beyond, which has a B-minus rating from Niche. Students may advance to C-rated Worcester East Middle and then to C-plus-rated North High. At the high school, students can enroll in a Health Science Academy that prepares students to sit for their Certified Nursing Assistant Exam by their senior year.Watch regattas on Lake Quinsigamond
Every spring, the community crowds the shores of Lake Quinsigamond to watch the regattas and crew racing held by the Quinsigamond Rowing Association. The community also joins greater Worcester downtown for events like the annual winter festival, which features ice skating, creative ice sculptures, local food trucks and kid-friendly crafts.Major roadways make for simple commutes
“It's a nice place to walk since there are wide sidewalks if you're over by the lake, but people are mostly driving to get around,” Zamarro says. She adds, “It’s close to major transportation networks, like I-90, I-290 and I-495.” Commuters working downtown only have to travel 4 miles east to get to work, and major employers like the UMass hospital network, Biotech Park and the VA Hospital are also close by. Residents can also merge onto Interstate 90 to drive 45 miles east to Boston, and the Worcester Regional Airport, which is about 8 miles west, serves those planning longer trips. Bus stops operated by the Worcester Regional Transit Authority can also be found throughout the neighborhood.Ice cream by the water
Residents can grab subs for lunch from Regatta Deli or enjoy Lebanese dishes and cocktails from El Basha Restaurant in the evenings. If they’re craving a sweet treat, locals head to Madulka's Ice Cream, where they can enjoy sundaes while watching the boats sail by on Lake Quinsigamond. There aren’t many stores in the neighborhood, but Shaw’s, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are all under 2 miles northeast to Shrewsbury for groceries. The neighborhood is also just a little over 3 miles east of downtown Worcester, where locals can browse retail stores and go to entertainment venues.
