Drexelwood’s mix of suburban and city amenities
About 25 miles outside of Philadelphia, Drexelwood is the typical middle-class suburb for both families and city commuters. Center City is made accessible thanks to Interstate 95, and New York City is a destination for many residents. “People here commute not only to Philly, but also to New York,” says Christine Jandovitz, an area local and Realtor with Keller Williams Langhorne who transplanted from New York 34 years ago. “It was originally advertised for New Yorkers as a bedroom community. That’s why it attracts people from the city. It’s affordable.” Jandovitz adds that, in Drexelwood, people can find a nice, mid-priced house and have everything they need nearby. “It’s convenient. Shopping, hospitals, everything is less than 5 minutes away.” While the sidewalk-lined streets within the neighborhood appeal to young families, Drexelwood’s proximity to grocers, eateries and shops are a big draw for those looking for city-like amenities.

Split between Falls Township and Bristol Township schools
The area in which Drexelwood sits is split between two townships, which means two different school districts. “Some people don’t know that, and when they’re looking for a home, it could make a difference," says Melissa Centifonti, a Bucks County local and Broker/Owner with Realty One Group Focus. Drexelwood is one of the neighborhoods that this affects, as it is split between Falls Township and Bristol Township. Students living in the Falls Township section might begin at Oxford Valley Elementary before advancing to William Penn Middle, both of which receive an A-minus grade from Niche. The Pennsbury School District Board passed a new budget that will bring a major change to the high school’s campus, including a brand-new building and athletic fields.

Ghostbusting at Bolton Mansion
A few blocks south of Drexelwood, Bolton Mansion attracts amateur ghost hunters and advanced paranormal enthusiasts alike. This historic home was built in 1687 and is widely thought to be haunted. As the story goes, the contractors who were working on the building’s renovations reported that they saw children playing in the stairwells and adult spirits walking from room to room. Growing diversity celebrated at Union Christian Church
On the east side of Drexelwood is United Christian Church, whose members celebrate the growing diversity found in their community. On the outside, the A-frame church has a decorative stone facade, and on the inside, the story of a brave family is passed down to each generation. The congregation remembers the Myers, the first Black family to move to the area, which had been up to that point the largest community in America with no Black residents. William, an army veteran returning from the war, and his wife, Daisy, moved their family into the neighborhood and faced a series of racial attacks and discrimination. The Myers met with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for guidance on how to change the town’s racist FHA regulations, but the family ultimately moved away after just four years.
