A classic New Jersey suburb with nature and a commuter bus
In North Jersey, about 25 miles away from New York City, sits Wyckoff, a community-oriented suburb where elected members of the township committee take turns being mayor. “They’re very collaborative and into serving the community,” says Maryanne Elsaesser, a lifelong resident and real estate agent with over 30 years of experience. “Plus, the rotating mayorship keeps everybody humble.” A wide range of sub-multimillion houses and several commuting options to Manhattan make Wyckoff an attractive option in the tri-state area, and access to nature and locally owned businesses add to its appeal. “It was originally farmland, so it’s more of a laidback community,” Elsaesser says. “And I love that when a new neighbor comes in, somebody is bringing them cookies.”
Wyckoff features various charming residential neighborhoods.
Zabriskie Pond is a favorite location for young Wyckoff anglers.

Colonials, Cape Cods and townhouse developments under $1 million
Single-family colonial, Cape Cod and ranch style homes are the most common housing options in Wyckoff. Houses vary in age from the early 20th century up to the 2000s, and most are priced between $800,000 and $1.5 million. Some smaller houses can be found for $650,000, and large estates can sell for up to $2.5 million. Although according to Elsaesser, buyers usually choose Wyckoff more for the environment than the properties themselves. “You can go to surrounding neighborhoods and get a better house that’s more updated,” Elsaesser says. “But what you’re buying here is the community.” Wyckoff also contains several townhouse communities that were built over the past 40 years. These typically consist of 25 to 40 detached and semi-detached townhouses on a single residential street, and are priced from $800,000 to $1 million.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students.
