The Riverfront branch of the Yonkers Public Library is busy with patrons who are either meeting with the library-provided job coach over Zoom on Wednesday mornings or participating in storytimes. “We just did our Winter Wonderland,” says Erik Malave, a library trainee at the Riverfront branch of the Yonkers Public Library. “We have someone dress up as Santa and give out hot chocolate and cupcakes.” The library is especially popular after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays when it hosts the Riverfront Teen Gaming event from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.“There’s the Riverfest in the summer,” says Malave. “They close down the streets by the library, and we have all these different vendors.” This one-day festival in September celebrates the community of Yonkers with vendors, rides and live performances. Other organizations show appreciation for Yonkers year-round, like the St. Peter, St. Denis & Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, which runs a food pantry. Other houses of worship in the area include Innerfaith Church and Iglesia Episcopal San Andres.
Commuters use state Route 9A and Ludlow train station
To reach New York City, commuters head South on state Route 9A, which takes 45 minutes to reach New York City. Many prefer to hop on a train at Ludlow station, which reaches Grand Central Terminal in 43 minutes on the Hudson Line. Interstate 87 and Route 9A lead to LaGuardia Airport, 15 miles away. To travel within Westchester County, Bee-Line bus stops are along popular roadways. For medical needs, St. John’s Riverside Hospital is 4 miles away.Shopping and dining on Broadway Avenue

Groceries are available in Greenway Shopping Center at ShopRite of Greenway Plaza, a mile away and closer to home at Cherry Valley Marketplace.Environmental factors
Bordering Ludlow is the Westchester County Wastewater Treatment Plant and the American Sugar Refining Inc. These locations give off strong odors, especially during the summer. Residents say the smell fades into the background, and the city is working to update the treatment center. While efforts have aimed to reduce the scent, Riverkeeper, a New York organization with a mission to protect the Hudson and ensure safe drinking water, continues to push for a more updated facility.
