Rockledge Heights
Rowhouses starting in the $400,000s
While some of Rockledge Heights’ older homes still stand, many have been demolished over the past 20 years. “Recently, homes here have been cleared out to make room for apartment buildings,” says Kenneth Moran, an Associate Broker with Keller Williams Realty, who’s been selling homes in the area for over a decade. While apartments make up over half of the total property mix for this neighborhood today, homebuyers can infrequently find single-family and multi-family rowhouses from the late 1800s and early 1900s. These two- to eight-bedroom homes typically sell for $400,000 to $800,000.Shopping and dining along Broadway
Broadway has plenty of shopping and dining, including Cherry Valley Marketplace for groceries. The Broadway Diner has been serving American favorites since 1985, and Sin Dulce Bakery is a family-owned Mexican bakery. The neighborhood is also just a mile south of Downtown Yonkers, where locals can find the Yonkers Waterfront, more restaurants and the Greenway Shopping Center.Commuting by train, bus and car
Situated a mile or less from shopping and recreation, Rockledge Heights gets a high walkability score. The Bee-Line System offers several bus stops along Broadway and McLean Avenue. Ludlow Station is just under a mile west of the neighborhood with daily service from Poughkeepsie to Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal. Broadway, which borders the neighborhood to the west, provides those commuting by car with a straight shot into the city, running 15 miles south all the way to Battery Park. “The roads are heavily trafficked, but it's also a huge train stop,” says Moran. LaGuardia Airport is 10 miles south. The closest hospital is Saint Joseph's Medical Center, which is located 1 mile north.Events in Downtown Yonkers
At Yonkers Downtown in September, Riverfest is Westchester’s largest one-day festival. Running since 1992, the festival has a bacon, egg and cheese cook-off, live music, food vendors and activities for the whole family. Yonkers Arts Weekend is a two-day festival in May that features over 200 exhibiting artists and dozens of workshops. Taking place near Riverdale Avenue in August, the Dominican Festival offers live music and local vendors.Futsal at Pelton Park
Just north of the neighborhood, mid-sized Pelton Park has baseball and softball diamonds, a futsal court, a basketball court and a playground. One mile north, Tibbetts Brook Park has a large aquatic complex and a 2-mile trail. And a mile south, Van Cortlandt Park is 1,100 acres and offers a 7.5-mile trail, dozens of sports facilities and the Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course, which is the oldest public course in the country.International Baccalaureate Programme at Yonkers High
Students may start at Las Hermanas Mirabal Community School, which gets a 4 out of 10 from GreatSchools, for kindergarten through eighth grade. Yonkers High School receives a 5 out of 10 and offers the International Baccalaureate Programme, which gives students the opportunity to complete college-level courses before graduating.
