Northeast York offers comparatively affordable prices and proximity to history
Northeast York is a mixed-use neighborhood in York, Pennsylvania, combining industrial properties, homes, rentals and office space. Tucked under Codorus Creek as it bends northeast, the neighborhood offers a blend of older housing ranging from newly remodeled homes to fixer-uppers, public transit on Market and Philadelphia streets, and proximity to the eateries, events and museums in historic downtown York, just a few blocks west of the neighborhood. York served as the capital of the United States during part of the Revolutionary War period, and it was here that the precursor to the U.S. Constitution was developed and signed. “The Articles of Confederation were signed here,” says Mitzi Heaton, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. York City schools serve this neighborhood.
Rentals, rowhouses and renovations
While four out of five residents here rent, and rowhouses are the dominant design, some single-family detached homes featuring Second Empire designs can range from about $120,000 to $160,000. Rowhouses and partially detached homes can start around $66,000 for properties that need repairs and run up to about $210,000 for those that have been recently remodeled. The median build year for homes in Northeast York is 1900, so many of these properties are old. The neighborhood holds a CAP Index Crime Score of 6, higher than the national average of 4. Areas with rowhouses can be short on trees, with foliage more prominent behind properties. Sidewalks line many streets.
Many townhomes in Northeast York feature a partial third floor with dormers for extra living space.
The Second Empire style home, with it’s mansard roof, is a popular style throughout Northeast York.
