One of the most economical places to live
Remnants of driveways and cement steps that once led to houses sit along the sidewalks of Warren. With the use of a grant, the city demolished the abandoned and boarded-up houses of the neighborhood, leaving behind only those that are occupied. The area was once projected to be booming, with an industry built on steel production and manufacturing. The growth did not last long, however, and the economy of Youngstown hasn't been the same since. However, "People forget that Youngstown has been the most economical place to live for the past 25 years," says Cynthia Cursaro, the owner of Tri-Sun Real Estate & Property Management. "It takes much less money to have a decent life around here than in any other city." Warren is close to beautiful parks, involved schools, and downtown activities. With some of the least expensive housing in the county, it offers proximity without having to spend a fortune.
Thousands of acres of outdoor fun
One of the area's best gems is Mill Creek Park. The outdoor trek stretches over 2,000 acres of streams, lush evergreen trees and sports fields. Hikers can explore 15 miles of trails past the expansive Lake Glacier, and those looking for athletic outlets can visit the sand volleyball courts, batting cages, and low-par golf course. Even closer to home, the Edith Kauffman Quarry Garden has densely wooded trails that lead to Ford Nature Center. Residents interested in learning about native plants and wildlife can participate in the center's exhibits and workshops.

Family Dollar and Dollar General are along Market Street, where many residents stock up on groceries, but Save A Lot is less than 2 miles east for those willing to travel. Just south of the neighborhood, Savannah Joe's has classic American fare and Southern dishes like jambalaya, shrimp and grits and fried catfish. With the slogan "Food for Your Soul," it's the go-to spot for a comfort meal.

Improvements for the integrity of houses
The variety of architectural styles in town is limited, but the condition of the homes varies greatly. Some feature recent renovations, new roofs and pristine vinyl siding, while others need a little love and a lot of elbow grease. Fortunately, homeowners can access a program that replaces leaky roofs at no cost to improve their well-being. "We've been active in Youngstown since 1983. So, I've seen the neighborhoods change over and over throughout the years, and they're currently trending up, not down," Cursaro says. Worker's cottages with two-and-a-half stories and wide porches from the 1920s are abundant in the area, ranging between $25,000 and $100,000. Clusters of tall trees line each backyard, and the plowed lots have left plenty of green space behind. Though sidewalks are beside the gridded streets, they are unlevel and overgrown with weeds and grass, making them less than ideal for walking.
