Interstate 8 connects with East 32nd Street at the neighborhood's northeast corner and leads 12 miles northwest to Downtown Yuma. Kids riding their bikes down the sidewalk-lined streets are a common sight here, and the overall CAP Index Crime Score is 3 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4. Area houses of worship include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Iglesia Ni Cristo.

21st-century construction in Cielo Verde
Cielo Verde’s homes are mostly 21st-century new traditional builds that feature Pueblo- or Spanish Revival-style details like tan stucco exteriors and terracotta-tiled roofs. These homes are all set on gravel-packed lots that range from 8,000 to 9,000 square feet. “You’re going to see a variety of landscaping," Badilla says. "You could have trees, lawns or desert plants—and you’re going to have sidewalks, curbs and driveways.” Most local homes have three or four bedrooms, attached garages and private courtyards. Prices range from $300,000 to $500,000, depending on property size and special features like multi-car garages or covered patios. In the neighborhood’s south, 21st-century manufactured homes in the 55+ Carefree Village Resort community have one or two bedrooms and attached carports on concrete lots of 600 to 1,200 square feet; prices range from $150,000 to $250,000. Residents in Carefree Village Resort share access to a community pool and hot tub, as well as a clubhouse with billiards and other table games.

Downtown is 12 miles northwest via Interstate 8, which is found northeast along East 32nd Street. Locals typically drive to get around, though sidewalk-lined streets make the neighborhood pedestrian-friendly and Yuma County Area Transit buses stop along East 32nd Street. Yuma International Airport is 7 miles southwest, and Yuma Regional Medical Center is 10 miles northwest.

Badilla recommends Ocotillo Park, 4 miles southeast, where locals shoot hoops on the basketball court and enjoy pick-up soccer and frisbee games on the grassy field. Waylon’s Water World is the local oasis, 5 miles northwest, where families cool off by riding water slides and floating down the lazy river. In Downtown Yuma, locals ride their bikes or jog along the Colorado River at Gateway Park.
Ocotillo Park has a basketball court and covered playground.
Saguaro Park offers a paved walking path, a playground and dog-friendly fields.

Shopping and dining at the Cielo Verde retail plaza
In the neighborhood’s north, the Cielo Verde retail plaza includes a Walmart, as well as fast-food chains and some local businesses. “They have a Panda Express and Wendy’s right on the corner," Badilla says. "There’s a gym across the street, a nail salon, Wells Fargo—it’s all really close.” A Touch of Thai is a neighborhood favorite for its authentic Thai dishes, like mango sticky rice and tofu tod (crispy tofu bites) with freshly made peanut sauce. Downtown, residents can start their morning with a fresh coffee on Cafecito’s outdoor patio and end their night with a craft beer from The Alement, a local dive with bar games and live music.
Residents of Cielo Verde also shop at the Dollar Tree nearby.

Culinary-themed events in downtown Yuma
Locals head 12 miles northwest to downtown Yuma for annual events. The annual Yuma Medjool Date Festival in January celebrates dates, a popular local crop, with date-inspired recipes and live demonstrations from celebrity chefs. In February, the two-day BBQ & Brew Festival fills downtown with the sweet aromas of homestyle barbeque and live country music from local musicians. There are also seasonal events throughout the year, like the Dorothy Young Memorial Electric Light Parade in December, where lighted floats and costumed dancers march through downtown to celebrate Christmas and Yuma history.
