Suburban life within commuting distance of New York City
Valley Stream is the first stop in Long Island on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), making the village a popular choice for city workers who want to come home to the suburbs. The village shares its name with the stream that runs through the neighborhood, feeding into Valley Stream Pond. “It’s a short commute to New York City. It only takes about 30 minutes to get to Penn Station and now that there is a stop at Grand Central Terminal, it’s even shorter,” says Joosoo Kim, a local real estate agent with Charles Rutenberg Realty Inc. Valley Stream also offers top-notch schools, access to state and local parks and a diverse community. “Families fall in love with Valley Stream because it welcomes people from all walks of life with open arms,” Kim says.

Tidy lawns and tree-lined streets
There’s a variety of homes in the village, from 1920s colonial-inspired houses to Cape Cods built in the 1940s and 1950s, as well as newer ranches. “We do not have many co-ops or townhouses compared to other neighborhoods,” Kim says. Prices range from around $630,000 for a three-bedroom home to close to $1 million for a five-bedroom house with multiple bathrooms. Residences often have trim lawns and sit on tree-lined streets. A small sliver in the southwest corner of Valley Stream, close to Motts Creek, has higher home prices, with ranch properties regularly selling for $1.1 million or more.

Greenspace and a swimming complex at Hendrickson Park
Arthur J. Hendrickson Park is at the center of village life, which hosts community events and has a mini golf course and a swimming complex with an interactive kiddie water park and diving and Olympic-sized pools. The 45-acre green space also offers fishing in Valley Stream Pond; basketball, tennis and handball courts; and walking trails that connect to Valley Stream State Park—across the street from Hendrickson Park—for about a 3-mile loop, Kim says. “It’s really beautiful and serene there,” she adds. The state park offers additional picnic space with grills, play areas and courts over its 97 acres.

Valley Stream is a calm and diverse neighborhood. There isn't much to do here however, the town pool is citizen favorite. It includes a park with golfing, basketball courts, swings, slides, and etc. The school districts are kept close and are well known for academic success.

I practically grew up here. It's a nice area. Everything is close by and the schools around there are very professional.

I definitely like how family friendly Valley Stream is. It is definitely one of those places that you aspire to live. It's very calm, very quiet and very peaceful. Its extremely safe. It would not recommend it to young people because it's more suburban area.

Some of the street lights do not work properly and makes the streets dark. Some can cause the accidents that happen in this town. There isn't a lot of crime that happens in this town, and I would say that the town is relatively safe. Police tend to patrol around the town frequently.
