An older community with a dense commerical corridor

Maitland is one of the oldest municipalities in Central Florida that sports a growing commercial corridor with several million-dollar lakefront estates. Lakes like Maitland Lake offer quickly accessible outdoor recreation, and Orlando Avenue is flanked by a diverse collection of restaurants, stores, and service businesses. "People who live here stay here," says Realtor Lindsay Chancellor Keller Williams Elite Partners III Realty. Chancellor has sold homes across the area for nearly 5 years. "The primary appeal of Maitland is the location. Maitland is close enough to Walt Disney World Resorts and beaches to be convenient but far enough away to avoid the crowd."

Lakefront homes cost over a million

Many homes were built in the 1970s and 80s, which means large interiors and big lots for price tags between $450,000 and $850,000. "Instead of tearing down old homes, like in nearby neighborhoods, people are renovating," Chancellor says. "Which is reinvigorating the neighborhood." The most common style is mid-century modern, with a wide footprint and floor-to-ceiling windows. Lakefront homes, like those along the shores of Lake Minnehaha and Lake Sybelia, exceed the million-dollar mark, a few reaching $4 million. Homes on the waterfront are sprawling ranch styles with elaborate porches and multi-story, contemporary homes with stately entrances.
