Maryland has a wide variety of apartments available throughout the state. There are two major economic areas in the state, one around Baltimore and the other in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. Apartments range from high-rise to garden style, luxurious to affordable. Construction on new apartment buildings in the area continues, in order to meet demands.
Montgomery County sits to the north of Washington DC and is home to some of the most expensive real estate in Maryland. Cities within the county include Gaithersburg, Rockville, Tacoma and Chevy Chase. It is an important area for business and research, particularly in the field on biotechnology. Prince George's County is in the same region of the state, located to the east of the nation's capital. The county has a storied history and is home to many significant historical sites. It is a large county and encompasses many DC suburbs. Some of the cities that are located in Prince George's County are Bowie, College Park, Laurel, Greenbelt and Hyattsville. Further east lies Anne Arundel County, along the western bank of the Chesapeake Bay and home to the state's capital, Annapolis. To the north is the city of Baltimore, an independent city, not to be confused with Baltimore County, which lies just outside of Baltimore proper. The County stretches from Baltimore to the northernmost part of the state. It is the third most populous county in Maryland and is close to all the amenities that Baltimore has to offer.
With two major economic anchors in a small state, Maryland's economy continues to thrive because of its diversity. Its top industries are aerospace and defense, manufacturing, cyber security and health sciences. It is also a tourism destination due to its proximity to DC, its beautiful cities along the Chesapeake, its beaches on the Atlantic and, of course, Baltimore. The top employers in the state are Giant Food Inc., Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, MedStar Health and Black and Decker.
