Why Live in Meadowlawn

More than 2,000 carefully landscaped trees and shrubs shade century-old gravestones in Woodside Cemetery. Established in the 1890s less than 2 miles from downtown Middletown, the cemetery anchors a neighborhood known as Meadowlawn, where dozens of homes were built for steelworkers throughout the 1920s. "Middletown and Armco Steel have a long, long history," explains Victoria Torgersen of Comey & Shepherd Realty, adding that many of the city's residential neighborhoods, like Meadowlawn, grew during the company's heyday. Although AK Steel moved its headquarters in the early 2000s, other industrial jobs have remained in the area. There are gas suppliers, steel fabricators, packaging centers and more near Meadowlawn's southern border, which bring jobs to residents. The first homes in Meadowlawn date back to the 1920s, when the rustbelt community was still experiencing rapid expansion. There are 100-year-old bungalows and Cape Cods throughout the neighborhood, and prospective buyers will also find newer ranch-style houses constructed during the '90s and early 2000s. Prices typically fall between $100,000 and $200,000, although new construction from as recently as 2024 is sometimes
