Ranch styles and split levels
Maitland Park occupies a half-residential, half-industrial stretch of Milwaukee’s South Side, with Interstate 41 to the west and Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport to the east. The streets are lined with trees and sidewalks, and the terrain is relatively flat. Its 1,000-plus residents live in three small clusters of single-family homes. The first cluster is south of the park, the second is north of the park and the third is north of the Airport Spur Freeway. The homes were built in the 1960s, so the neighborhood mainly includes mid-20th-century ranch styles with linear layouts and either brick or wood exteriors. There are also several split levels with large front porches. The homes have private driveways leading to attached or detached garages. Prices range from $240,000 to $375,000. "I think a lot of people who move in are planning to live there a long time, but a lot of these homes are starter homes for buyers," says Realtor Alan Alteri, who sells houses in the area with Shorewest Realtors. The neighborhood also has multiple apartment complexes.
