City amenities without the hustle and bustle
The Moody neighborhood began as a small agricultural community outside Birmingham in rural St. Clair County. At the turn of the 20th century, Moody quickly developed into a small industrialized city, adding several manufacturing plants and a gristmill. Today, Moody is recognized as one of the fastest-growing cities in Alabama, with a current population of almost 14,000. While this small-town-turned-city is only getting bigger, “it’s still a hometown kinda place where everybody knows everybody,” says Pamela Long, a Moody native and the front desk event services director at Moody’s Civic Center. With a mix of national chains and local businesses, Long says, “Moody is a nice place to live because we have all the conveniences of a city without all the hustle and bustle.”
New traditional homes with spacious yards
Decorated Tudor Revivals and new traditional brick homes from the early 2000s are neatly organized in cul-de-sac communities. Some contemporary craftsmen with sleek interiors and mountain views were added to the neighborhood in 2021. Most houses in Moody offer half-acre green lawns with plenty of room to add a swimming pool or backyard playset. Residents take pride in keeping their yards well-manicured and flowerbeds weed-free. 1970s ranch-style homes sit on tree-lined properties in Moody’s more rural areas. Many of these countryside houses offer larger lots, with most at or above one acre. While most homes in Moody list between $250,000 and $350,000, some recently built homes with scenic mountain views can cost up to $675,000.
