Kelly calls the cluster of local shops and eateries “the pride and joy of the neighborhood.” It’s a place where locals can meet up for a quiet cup of coffee or pick up a bottle of wine for dinner. “Pitt Street Pharmacy is the community’s number one gathering spot. It’s like stepping back in time.” The long-standing market serves up grilled cheeses and malted milkshakes to excited kids and nostalgic patrons. For a sit-down meal, locals visit the waterfront restaurants along the Shem Creek shoreline. The outdoor patios at Saltwater Cowboys and Red’s Ice House seat diners watching for dolphins in the water while they dig into the fresh catch of the day. Shoppers can pick up fresh produce at the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market on Tuesday afternoons or stop at Publix Supermarket and Harris Teeter around the corner for pantry staples. Mount Pleasant Academy and Moultrie Middle School are in town, each rated A on Niche. Kelly says, “Many kids walk or bike to school, or their parents drive them on golf carts.” Rising students might continue to Lucy Beckam High, a new Mount Pleasant facility that opened its doors in 2020, complete with modern amenities, including a sensory room, a private place to unwind during a busy day. “After school, especially on Fridays, many of them head to Pitt Street Pharmacy to get ice cream or hang out there for the afternoon,” Kelly says.
