The community of Wakendaw Lakes is a small residential neighborhood south of Shem Creek that takes full advantage of its tranquil setting and proximity to downtown Charleston and Isle of Palms Beach. “If people want a more established, more traditional neighborhood with tree-lined streets, they’re probably going to find what they’re looking for here,” says Erin Healey Ledford, a Realtor with The Boulevard Company, who lives in South Mt. Pleasant and sells throughout the Charleston area. Most homes here have three or four bedrooms and were built in the 1970s and 1980s. Architectural styles include Colonial Revival, ranch-style and Cape Cod. Most options have been renovated and include gourmet kitchens, high-end appliances and large back patios. Front yards are often roomy and landscaped with mature trees and shrubs. Garages and driveways are common throughout the neighborhood, keeping the quiet streets clear. Homes don’t go on the market often; only 11 have sold in the past 12 months. However, when they do, their prices range from $760,000 to $2 million.
