Historic, small town charm
The historic community of Mountain Brook provides small-town charm right on the outskirts of Birmingham. Shopping districts, restaurants, parks and golf courses make this town a popular place to live and a sought-after tourist destination. Proximity to the Cahaba River adds a scenic element to outdoor activities and opens up possibilities for fishing and kayaking. Highly rated schools bring in younger families to mix with the older crowd and their well-maintained homes. "It's a great place to grow up in, with big front yards and great schools," says Jonathan Averett, a local Realtor with eXp Realty and four years of experience.

Multiple shopping opportunities
The real stars of this charming small town are its shopping villages, filled with adorable storefronts, mom-and-pop eateries and inviting cafes. Mountain Brook Village is a piece of history tucked into classic European architecture, with a vast range of shopping and dining options. There's also Crestline Village, with its shops and iconic clock tower. Church Street Coffee and Books provides coffee and a large book selection. Locals love the café's signature food item: the sea salt-topped, chocolate chunk-filled Breakup Cookies. Crestline Bagel Co. has 10 different hand-mixed cream cheese options and a smoked salmon spread. Those looking to mix up their bagel experience can try the Eggel, a bagel stuffed and baked with sausage, egg and cheddar cheese. Otey's is a local watering hole serving classic bar food and cold drinks since 1989. Regulars come for Chef Rodney's Famous Cheeseburger and stay for the live music. Gilchrist is another local favorite where patrons swear by the limeade and BLTs.
