Downtown living south of Broadway
Bright lights and loud crowds define the strip of honky-tonks on Broadway in Nashville, but inventive cocktail bars and stylish restaurants are the norm in SoBro, two blocks away. SoBro’s name means south of Broadway, and that short distance results in a significant shift in atmosphere. SoBro is a chic downtown neighborhood characterized by hotels, apartment buildings and condo complexes towering over the dense streets. The bases of these high-rises provide homes for restaurants, bars and cafes. SoBro residents live within a few minutes’ walk of the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum and Ryman Auditorium, so they can experience Nashville’s landmarks before retreating from the tourist areas back home. “It's really in the center of all of Nashville,” says Jesse Lynch, a Realtor who provides relocation advice through his Welcome to Tennessee real estate team. “The culture is cool, with lots of hangout spots and places to explore. You’ve got lots of young professionals coming in to experience the city in a well-maintained space.”
Sidebar experiments with cocktail creations
More than 30 bars line Broadway, where live music is the norm rather than the exception. However, SoBro locals probably are more likely to hang out in the neighborhood’s trendy dining spots and cocktail bars. Renowned chef Deb Paquette runs Etch, where the open kitchen lets diners watch chefs prepare Spanish and Italian dishes. An old hotel carport was refashioned into Sidebar, where the seasonal cocktail menus feature flavors such as chili pepper or plum. Small clothing boutiques are clustered together in The Gulch neighborhood next door. The Gulch also is where shoppers can get groceries from The Turnip Truck, a Nashville-based grocer. Health care services are available 2 miles away at TriStar Centennial Medical Center.
The Sidebar cocktail lounge at Bode has unique pop-ups and seasonal drinks.
Locals can work inside Dawn Cafe and grab an espresso or latte.

Homes among the Nashville skyline
Contemporary condo towers rising 20 stories in the air are common sights in SoBro. Homeowners here sacrifice space, as most units feature one or two bedrooms, but in return, they get views of the downtown skyline and proximity to bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. Homes often charge homeowners association or condo association fees, but they fund fitness centers, swimming pools and concierge service. Prices start in the low $400,000s for one-bedroom units, while newly built two-bedroom condos may cost nearly $3 million. Builders aim to build more towers in the neighborhood. For example, real estate developer Turnberry recently announced it will break ground in 2025 on 111 condo units in SoBro.

Country stars honored at Music City Walk of Fame Park
Green space is limited in SoBro, but residents can come down from their condos and stretch their legs at Music City Walk of Fame Park. The open, grassy plaza is surrounded by plaques commemorating country music stars. Next to the park, the Nashville Symphony performs alongside musical greats such as Patti LaBelle and Smokey Robinson in the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. SoBro borders Bridgestone Arena, where the NHL’s Nashville Predators play. The arena also draws concerts by headliners such as Drake and Tim McGraw. Two miles to the west, Centennial Park’s 130 acres of open lawns, walking trails and play areas have provided Nashvillians with a wide-open recreation spot since 1903.

Songwriters perform their lyrics at The Listening Room
Locals don’t have to endure the crowds on Broadway to catch live performances in Music City. Bands take the outdoor stage at 6th & Peabody, an entertainment space that also houses food stalls and a moonshine store. Throughout the week, people pop into The Listening Room Cafe to hear songwriters perform their music in an intimate setting.
