East of the Quinnipiac River lies Fair Haven Heights, a neighborhood referred to by New Haven residents as “the Heights” for the hill it sits on. It was established in the 18th century and served as an oystering village in its early days. Today, it is primarily residential and contains a mix of modest, cozy homes and stately riverfront properties, and residents appreciate its walkability and proximity to public parks, the river and New Haven’s downtown. “It’s very centrally located. Prices range from $150,000 for 650 square feet to $490,000 for 2,300 square feet. Those looking for a home with a bit less upkeep can find condos throughout the neighborhood’s northern section, ranging from $130,000 for 1,000 square feet to $260,000 for 1,300 square feet. Regarding crime, Fair Haven Heights scores a six out of 10 on the CAP Index, two points higher than the national average.

Locals get outside at Quarry Park and Fairmont Park
To get outside in the fresh air, residents have two large parks to choose from within the neighborhood, Quarry Park and the Fairmont Park. Quarry Park is a popular spot for hikers and nature lovers, known for the dinosaur fossils discovered there in the 19th century.
