A laid-back and convenient neighborhood in Kane County

Convenience, nature and freshly built homes meet in the southern Kane County neighborhood of North Aurora. Offering more of a laidback environment than Aurora, the neighborhood has newly built subdivisions that sit near popular restaurants, stores and well-rated schools. The Fox River bisects North Aurora, offering a natural, central space for the community to gather and enjoy outdoor recreation. Located along Interstate 88 and near train stations with routes that travel the 40 miles east to Chicago, North Aurora combines suburban amenities with urban access.

Indulge in a sustainably sourced bison burger and beer from Hardware

“Hardware is very popular, and people come from all over to go to that restaurant,” says Norma Yario, broker and Realtor with Keller Williams Inspire, who lives in the neighborhood. Hardware Sustainable Gastropub and Brewery has a seasonal menu with dishes crafted from ingredients grown in their farm and greenhouse, where patrons can find elevated burgers and brisket, along with beer and 400 different whiskey options. For a more laid-back environment, locals go to Kappy’s Bar and Grill, a gaming lounge serving Greek and American fare. Residents stock up on groceries and everyday essentials at Woodman’s Food Market and Aldi, and a collection of retailers can be found at the Chicago Premium Outlets. Located just over the neighborhood’s eastern edge, the outlets house retailers like Nike, Express and Gap.

Compete in the fishing derby or enjoy live music and treats at the North Aurora Days

The neighborhood comes together to celebrate the community in early August at the North Aurora Days. Held at the North Aurora Riverfront Park, the event includes food stands and live music, as well as a softball tournament, fishing derby and other family-friendly attractions. There are more recurring events at the Messenger Public Library of North Aurora, like a book club, children’s story times, an art club and a food club.

Go fishing or walk along the Fox River

“We have the Fox River, and people fish out of there and walk along the shore,” Yario says. The North Aurora Riverfront Park offers access to the Fox River with nature trails for strolling or biking. Locals can wade into the water, launch a canoe to paddle down the river or relax in the shaded green space on the park’s benches and gazebo. There’s also Pine Creek Park, a more traditional park hosting a variety of playground structures and a basketball court.

Newly built subdivisions boast New Traditional designs

North Aurora homes are arranged into neatly gridded subdivisions that branch off the neighborhood’s main roads. Though most houses sit close together, properties usually feature grassy yards framed by tall trees. Homebuyers can find a New Traditional townhouse built in the early 2000s for about $300,000, while a brick ranch built in the 1950s is priced around $330,000. Most commonly on the market are New Traditional new builds — a single-family ranch is priced between $350,000 and $500,000, while a larger two-story design costs between $500,000 and $700,000. As new development continues, buyers also have the opportunity to build their own homes, as open lots cost about $120,000 for a quarter of an acre.

Travel to Chicago by train or car

“We have convenient access to everywhere — it’s one of the reasons that I chose to live here. We’re down by 88 and close to Geneva, Aurora, Naperville, Aurora University, NIU and Chicago,” Yario says. She adds, “There are two train stations nearby — one in Aurora and one in Geneva. They’re both about the same distance from the neighborhood and both go to the city.” Residents can drive 40 miles east to Chicago, while Naperville is 15 miles southeast and Aurora is 4 miles south. The Pace Suburban Bus system has stops along North Lincoln Way and offers a route to Aurora, where residents link with the Metra Metropolitan Rail system to travel to Chicago.
