Lakefront community with a charming town center
Oaklyn is a small community-oriented borough of western New Jersey incorporated in 1905. Century-old homes accent quiet, leafy streets adjacent to Newton Lake, within walking distance of a rustic town center and waterfront parks. “Oaklyn is a quaint town with a cute little downtown area,” says Realtor Patricia Gesswein of Houwzer LLC Haddonfield. Gesswein has sold homes across the area for over 15 years and leads a team of 25 agents. “Many things are within walking distance, and locals are often out walking about.”
Century-old homes add charm at Oaklyn
Several homes in Oaklyn date back to the 1920s and early ’30s. “There are many older homes in the area, so the neighborhood has a lot of charm,” Gesswein says. Nearly every street in Oaklyn has accessible sidewalks that meet an assortment of Tudor-revival and traditional cottages, colonials, cape cods and bungalows. Colonials scatter the area, and several have been renovated or remodeled entirely. Houses on Kendall Boulevard have views of Newton Lake from their backyard. Most residents have small front porches decorated with hanging flower plants or adjacent flower beds. And locals maintain the upkeep of their quarter-acre yards. Housing values often fall between $250,000 and $450,000.
The residential streets in Oaklyn often have sidewalks to increase walkability.
Oaklyn has many home styles in close quarters, sitting along straight grid-pattern streets.

Fun along Newton Lake
Residents looking to enjoy a day outside have a few parks within walking distance. Locals enjoy views of Newton Lake at Veterans Memorial Park. The small park juts into the water and features a small path and ample benches under a canopy of mature deciduous trees. Locals enjoy the park, particularly in the fall, for its colorful trees and scattered leaves. Oaklyn-Lions Memorial Park is another lakefront respite with water views, a playground for the kids, tennis courts and a small baseball diamond. Knight Park is under 2 miles away in the neighboring town of Collingswood. Community members gather at Knight Park to play ball, bike the paths, relax by the pond or throw a birthday celebration. Knight Park is host to many events like movie nights and concerts.

Walks downtown and shows at The Ritz
Oaklyn’s small downtown area features a few restaurants locals can visit. Caffeinated residents grab their morning pick-me-up and fresh-baked goods at Common Grounds. For dinner, Philly’s Phatties is known for its pizza, pasta and sandwiches. Next door is Yummies Palace, a small ice cream parlor with various flavors. And in the same strip is Tonewood Brewing, a local brewery where adults enjoy craft beers like the Hawaiian Cottage or the Tangent IPA. Additional dinner options run up and down White Horse Pike, including the soul food at Aunt Berta’s Kitchen and the burgers at White Horse Pub. Many locals end their night with a show at the Ritz Theater Company, a local theater that’s served the community for over 30 years. Shoppers mostly head Audubon Crossings for their grocery and retail hauls. The shopping center features big-box names like ACME Market, Walmart, Marshall’s and Ross.
