Why Live in Malcolm X
Malcolm X is a historic Omaha neighborhood that is the birthplace of its namesake. Just north of downtown, this community is home to a mix of long-time residents and newcomers drawn to its proximity to the city's core. Over the past two decades, Omaha has invested in upgrading nearby commercial areas, benefiting local businesses and schools. Common home styles include turn-of-the-century cottages, bungalows and mid-20th-century ranch-style homes, many of which have spacious front lawns and elm-shaded streets. Adams Park, a 60-acre green space bordering the neighborhood, offers basketball and tennis courts, a playground, a pond, and walking paths, along with the Adams Park Community Center. Also in the neighborhood is the Malcolm X Foundation, located at his birth site, which includes a cultural center, museum, community garden and radio station. Local restaurants include Cajun Kitchen and Hartland Bar-B-Que. Residents can buy groceries from K-N-J Grocery Store and a Walmart Neighborhood Market. U.S. Route 75 provides direct access to downtown Omaha, about 4 miles southeast. Commuters can also take the Metro Transit Omaha buses. Eppley Airfield is just over 5 miles east.
