Oregon City’s South End neighborhood features 50-year-old Ranch-style and split-level houses on quarter-acre lots, providing a contrast to the newer, more densely packed homes found along the city’s southern border. Built during the 1960s and 1970s, these homes often include small yards, tall trees, and patio areas, with some offering views of the Willamette River or amenities like above-ground pools and hot tubs. The neighborhood’s winding subdivision streets have sidewalks on at least one side and space for on-street parking. South End is home to the Oregon City Service Learning Academy, a public charter school with a service-based curriculum, and students can also attend the highly rated John McLoughlin Elementary School, Gardiner Middle School, and Oregon City High School. Chapin Park, a local feature, offers a playground, sports fields, and a picnic shelter, while nearby Old Canemah Park provides forested picnic areas and views of Coffee Creek Falls. Dining options include the highly-rated Don Chuy Mexican Restaurant and the popular Pure Bliss Bakery and Café. Despite its name, South End is not the southernmost part of Oregon City, but it remains a livable community with a mix of parks, schools, and dining options.
