Why Live in Taft
Once a rural town, Taft has developed over the decades but retains a strong community. Passionate residents under the umbrella of Take Action for Taft have successfully created positive changes in the neighborhood — notably, a new park. "That’s what I'm trying to do — make it more friendly for the younger kids so they can grow up and say, 'We hung out at the park and had a great time'," says Dickie Owens, a lifelong resident and president of the TAFT group. This is a mostly calm space, save for the occasional train and planes from the nearby Orlando International Airport. Tidy streets are filled with smaller homes, including manufactured homes, ranch-style homes and gable-front bungalows. Front yards are occasionally fenced in with well-kept, short lawns.
