Paulsboro offers a central location to New Jersey residents
Paulsboro is a mostly residential community on the fringes of New Jersey, situated along the Delaware River. The area is almost directly across the water from the roar of jets at Philadelphia International Airport, but historic homes paired with the ability to commute to either Philadelphia or Wilmington bring residents to Paulsboro. “Paulsboro is right along the Delaware River and a pretty industrialized area,” says Tracy Troiani, a sales agent and Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach – Mullica Hill South. “There are a lot of older homes with some great character. There are families that have lived in that town a very long time.” Paulsboro sits between Gibbstown and West Deptford and Interstate 295 runs through the community, lending additional convenience on the New Jersey side.
Residential properties line New Jersey streets
Single-family homes situated on gridded residential streets occupy most of Paulsboro. The northern half of the community typically offers larger lots, dotted with trees and lined with sidewalks, while homes in southern Paulsboro are closer together. Throughout town, most homes date to the first half of the 20th century. “Anything in New Jersey along the river has significant history, because there were ports all along the river,” Troiani says, adding that Paulsboro also offers investment properties. Colonial-style and ranch-style homes, as well as bungalows, are all common architectural styles. Prices typically fall between $150,000 and $350,000. “There have actually been quite a few sales over the past year,” Troiani says. “Things are moving over there.”
Four schools within the Paulsboro School District
From kindergarten through second grade, students often attend Billingsport Elementary School, which gets a B-plus from Niche. Loudenslager Elementary School receives a C-minus and serves grades three through six. Paulsboro Junior High School also garners a C-minus, while Paulsboro High School gets a C. Paulsboro High offers sports like field hockey in the fall, wrestling in the winter and softball in the spring.
Driving across the river into Pennsylvania or Delaware
NJ Transit buses have stops along Broad Street. For those who prefer to drive themselves, Interstate 295 passes through southern Paulsboro. Philadelphia is less than 20 miles north, while Wilmington is about 25 miles west. “Paulsboro is more focused on the commuter and people looking to travel to Philadelphia or different parts of Pennsylvania or Delaware,” Troiani says. “It’s very accessible.” Inspira Health Center Woodbury sits about 6 miles from central Paulsboro. Philadelphia International Airport is about 20 miles across the river.
Riverside dining in northern Paulsboro
Along the Delaware, diners can grab food with a waterfront view at Kelus Riverside Bar & Grill, which also hosts live music, or at the Alibi Inn. On the south side of the community, the Paulsboro Diner serves breakfast and lunch every day. “The Riverwinds Restaurant is not far from Paulsboro, and that’s a beautiful place along the river.” Riverwinds is in West Deptford and offers steak, seafood and more. Grocery shoppers often go to an Aldi or Acme Markets about 6 miles east.
Green spaces close to the Delaware River

In nearby Gibbstown, Nehaunsey Park has a trail, and the Gibbstown Sports Complex offers half a dozen baseball fields and a roller hockey rink. Anglers can fish in the Mantua Creek, just east of Paulsboro.
