Small town charm on the Delaware River

Set on the eastern bank of the Delaware River, the town of Pennsville prides itself on its small-town charm and natural beauty. Its reasonable housing prices and proximity to both Wilmington and Philadelphia have attracted many families and professionals, while its civic pride and community engagement have maintained multigenerational families over the years. “This is a small town,” says Deputy Mayor Scott Hourigan. “We help each other here. That’s what brings people here.”

Riverview's central gazebo

With a history dating back to the mid-19th century, Riverview Beach Park has been a local favorite for generations. 6 acres of green space lines the Delaware River, featuring a mile-long walking trail, basketball courts, a fishing pond and more. The Riverview Beach gazebo is often used as a centerpiece for the many local events hosted in the park. “It’s really the center of town,” says Nancy Sommers, office manager at the Pennsville Recreation Department. “We host so many events there.”

Septemberfest and local sports

Held annually on the first Saturday after Labor Day, Septemberfest has been a local go-to event since its inception in 1976. The celebration starts with a parade and continues throughout the day with live music, food and craft vendors and exhibits, culminating with fireworks at dusk. Beyond this, Pennsville’s calendar is full of annual events, including a wine festival, a Halloween festival, and active youth athletics. “This place has a little league like nothing I’ve ever seen,” says Hourigan. “If your kids like sports, this is the place for you.”
