A colorful neighborhood
The Mantua neighborhood is a busy urban community located near the Philadelphia Zoo and several colleges. “One of the highlights of Mantua is its accessibility,” says Mitchell Chellis, owner of Hair Situations Barber Shop. “A few miles south is downtown, north is the art museum, go east for the zoo and west to hospitals and universities. There is always something going on, from bike rides to jogging events.” The colorful neighborhood is as well known for its brightly painted murals that adorn many playgrounds and buildings as it is for its bustling student population. “The area housing really is two-fold,” says Karl Klotzbach, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. “There’s a lot of student housing here. And because it is located so near Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, it’s known as University City.” Chellis agrees. “There’s a bit of everybody here and all the college students in the community keep it young and fresh. That’s one of the highlights of Mantua — its diversity of people,” says Chellis.

I only rent, so I don't know much about property taxes. But Mayor Nutter seems to be doing a good job in office. The police have a tendency to stop people for things like broken tail lights than bust drug deals in the worst parts of the city.

My family leaves in University City section of West Philadelphia. Many students rent the large 5 BR, 3 story Victorian row homes in my neighborhood. Because of the influx of so many students living in our area, we have roving security by Drexel Police and bike and foot patrol by the University District Security Squad. Students come and go all hours of the day and night.
