Plantation Florida is in Broward County Florida, and gets its name from the Everglades Plantation Company that used to own the land. It contains many gold courses, most notably, the Rolling Hills golf course that was the setting for the pool scene in the film Caddyshack. Properties in Plantation range from attractive condos for singles to luxurious 2 to 3 bedroom houses to pleasant single-family ranch houses. Home values have risen in recent years, but there are a number of affordable houses on the market.
Although the city suffered significant damage as the result of Hurricane Wilma in 2005, many of the neighborhoods have been refurbished. There is plentiful green space in Planation, including a variety of golf courses and parks such as Plantation Heritage Park and Central Park. The city has two major shopping malls: the Westfield Broward Mall and the Fashion Mall. The latter was the location of significant urban redevelopment in the city center. The midtown’s planning is based on mixed-use to stimulate commerce and residence in the center of Plantation’s urban area. Fashion Mall is reorganizing after having filed for bankruptcy and the space is being re-designated for retail, office and housing areas.
