The Louis Wulfekuhler house was designed and constructed in 1905 for Louis H. Wulfekuhler who was a prominent attorney and served as a Kansas State Senator. According to architectural drawings dated 1905, some of which remain on the property, it is an example of the Colonial Revival style home designed by W.P. Feth and sits in the prestigious South Broadway area of Leavenworth. The home has been totally updated and includes the addition of a dormer, 3 separate Central Air units for zoned heating & cooling, and a two-thirds basement which has the potential for a workshop. Architectural details include a full-length entrance porch on square tapered posts with turned balusters in the railing and a pedimented central porch entrance. The central entrance is accentuated with sidelights, a transom and dentil molding. There is a central bay window on the second floor rising to a wall dormer with an ornamental Palladian window. Decorative brackets and eave details ornament the eaves. Beautiful original woodwork, pocket doors, and sitting areas are spread throughout the house. The kitchen has been updated to include, dual butler pantries, a gas range, double ovens, a large stainless-steel farmers sink, marble counter tops and tons of storage. The house boasts a second floor laundry with a back stairwell leading to the kitchen. The detached two-story carriage house, complete with electrical service and a loft, is in the rear.
