This Home's History: This house was originally owned by John Lockwood & remained in the Lockwood family until 1857, when it was sold to Rachel Godfrey. The Godfreys sold the house & the accompanying land to Harriet Coley in 1898.The Coley's then sold the house to Sara Gould in 1924. Nikolai Sokoloff also briefly owned this house in the 1940s. Sokoloff was conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra in the 1920s & was director of the Works Progress Administration Music program in the 1930s. This home is significant due to the age of the structure & also for its rich history and its association with the Coley, Gould, Godfrey, Lockwood and Sokoloff families.
