While serving as a state senator during the 1870s, Mitchell sponsored the bill that funded three-quarters of the cost of construction of the Normal School located to the left of 15 hillside place, which in the 1880s was the original campus of Central Connecticut State College and is now the Hillside Place Condominium Complex. The Mitchell home features a central pavilion containing front doors; pointed central gables that break the roof line, balanced facades, and paired porches. Renovations for the roof, plumbing and electrical were done in the early 2000s. New Boiler install in 2022. This home is located just steps to Walnut Hill Park and convenient to shops and restaurants downtown.
