Set within the woods and on undulating terrain, Creek House draws on the privacy of the surrounding landscape to provide a calm and peaceful retreat. One side of the house is nestled into the hillside while the opposite facade opens up at the edge of a slope to capture the views and sounds of the rushing Mombaccus Creek below. The architect’s modern design maintains a functional, open floor plan in which kitchen, living and dining rooms flow into each other and form the core of the house. From the living and dining rooms, tall sliding glass doors open up to an expansive deck and to the woods beyond; essentially the outdoors becomes an extension of the living space. A bedroom, which can function as a den or office, and a full bath, complete the main level. The master and guest suites on the second level are spacious and calming, and both offer treehouse-like views. Closets and storage are plentiful, and bathrooms are outfitted with marble, lava stone and Italian Porcelanosa tile, as well as custom vanities designed by the architect. Designed by Marica McKeel of StudioMM and constructed by master-builder Hank Starr, Creek House’ siding and decking are Western red cedar, and all systems and components are of the highest specification. The house is heated with radiant floor loops, which supplement the passive heat gain from large southern facing windows. There are trails through the woods and a cozy fire pit on the landscaped and deer-fenced property.
