The ice from Lovell Lake was transported by train to the Boston market where it was distributed to homes & businesses for the ice box refrigerators until after the introduction & wide spread use of the electric refrigerator. The ice cutters ate & slept at this house. They wore sharp spiked cleats on their shoes. The cleats were not removed upon entering the home & cleat marks/indentations are still very prominent on the wood floors today. The 7 bedrooms were paid for & occupied by supervisors, and the workers threw down their bedrolls on the attic floor. It is believed to be the last surviving building from the ice-cutting era. The great room with it's fireplace served as a dance hall for the sock hops & other local events. Access the snowmobile trails from your ROW across the lake.
