Bidwell Mansion is not for sale, but there is another wonderful 1912 home, that is for sale just outside of town. It is an original Craftsman Style home built in the early years of Chico. This lovely home at 2030 Oak Way still stands as a beautiful piece of Chico's early history. In keeping with the original look, the home has shiplap siding, a big friendly front porch with the traditional porch columns and balusters. When you walk into the foyer, you notice the shiny oak floors and graceful staircase. This is a circular floorplan. Step into the classic living room, you will feel like you stepped back in time. It feels like there was an old-fashioned charm built into this home. This room features high ceilings, large windows and a sweet little window seat in the front corner of the room. There are traditional, tall columns to gently separate the living and dining rooms. The dining room has a wall of shelves for your treasured items. There is picture-rail molding in this home, so you can hang your family portraits without hurting the walls. There are two baths downstairs and another one upstairs. Of course, those were all added after the home was built. The two downstairs bedrooms feel very original. The front bedroom may be one of the first master bedrooms back then, since it has a private bath! The other bedroom is next to a full bath, nicely updated in 2021. The back of the house has a cool kitchen, open to the cozy family room with a shiny red woodstove, not far from the back deck. Upstairs is the master bedroom suite. This bedroom is large for the era and has window views of the front and back property. There is the sleeping area, with sitting and storage space nearby and a nicely updated, 2021 bath. Across the hall is a another bedroom or perhaps a quiet home office. The property's 15 gpm well comes in handy for these developed country gardens. There is the "show off garden" to greet guests out front, a gated herb garden on the side, a large veggie and grape garden behind the big garage, more fruit trees and veggies in the back garden, near the chicken coop. The garage has about 800 sq ft with about 200 more sq ft in the upstairs loft. That would make a great shop or whatever... PS - Most local folks know the Bidwell family were the founders of Chico. The people who built this home, had worked for the Bidwells and became friends. Annie Bidwell lent them money to buy land. There is a book about that piece of history, it will be left for the new owner.
