Barn at Spring Meadow--Rustic Country

Completely renovated rustic barn/home conversion in the heart of Elverson horse country. This charming mortise and tenon pegged, open beamed barn sports all of the modern amenities for your comforts while richly glowing its 170 year old historic charm of stone walls and rich woods. Large windows and an open deck draw you to beautiful outdoor views overlooking bucolic scenes. This green barn utilizes solar heat for hot water and heating.

Located in southern Berks County where Chester County and Lancaster Counties meet, there are many options of places to see and activities to enjoy. Historic Hopewell Furnace and French Creek Park are two miles down the road and offer tremendous biking, hiking, kayaking, swimming or horseback riding. In addition, the turnpike is also 2 miles away allowing easy access to Longwood Gardens, the Brandywine River Museum, the Winterthur Estate or Historic Philadelphia--all within an hour’s ride. Within another short ride is a rock climber’s paradise or a visit to Amish Country. Whatever your intention, there is plenty to enjoy even if you’d just like to relax and take in the peace of a country escape.

Tennant access--Guests have the entire house and grounds which includes a modern kitchen, washer and dryer, television, deck and plenty of parking. Guests will be given a key pad combination to enter. Guests have access to wander the 22 acres of horse farm and can use our canoe on the pond or fish from the banks.

Other things to note--Meet your hosts!

John and Kathy Malm fell in love with and settled in Elverson in 1990. Their love of historic buildings and the great outdoors brought them to the area. They raised their two sons to be nature lovers and sport enthusiasts. Graduating with a duel degree in mechanical engineering and business, John always enjoyed building and fixing things and when you live in an old farm house on a horse farm there are many things that need to be built or fixed. Throughout his career John has renovated and built many dwellings. He has a particular passion for historic buildings and appreciates barn frames with their hand hewn beams and mortise and tenon joints. His unique talent lies in rescuing parts from old houses before demolition and creatively incorporating these well-crafted pieces into his projects. By trade, John is a green energy heating and air conditioning contractor. Much of his work involves solar or geothermal heat pumped through radiant floors as you will experience at Spring Meadow barn.

Kathy is a retired teacher and active equestrian. She enjoys being an Honorary Whipper-in for the Cheshire Hunt and enjoys training, and fox hunting horses. Kathy is a life-long learner who enjoys sharing her passion of horses, nature, yoga, healthy cooking and holistic living with others.
