Vent hood is vented thru the roof rather than recirculating into the kitchen which prevents heat and cooking odors from circulating throughout the home. Entergy note: electrical has been on 24/7. The Entergy bill for this month is only $145.52! The low utility cost is due in part to the fact that the attic has 1 foot of insulation, all breaks in the exterior walls and ceilings are sealed, and the exterior walls have blown-in insulation rather than regular fiberglass insulation. The wall separating the den from the bedroom is also sound proofed to prevent noise disturbances. Blown- in insulation also has an added benefit of a boric acid component which acts as a pest barrier. House has never had a pest control treatment for roaches...they just can’t take it! Master bedroom was designed so that garden tub and a second walk-in closet can be easily added. All plumbing is located on exterior walls and with sewer pipes laid separately from the rest of the house to facilitate the addition of a garden tub, shower, and vanities. Roof decking is 5/8 inch plywood rather than 1/2 inch. The original 21+ year old roof was replaced with architectural shingles to enhance the sale-ability of our home, not because it needed it. The attic has a system of baffles and vents that reduce the heat buildup which ages and weakens the shingles and also helps reduce heating and cooling cost.
